416: Sci-Fi Costumes with Augusta Avallone - Obi-Wan Kenobi, Loki, and Star Trek Picard

Image
Augusta Avallone is a treasure-trove of sci-fi costume knowledge, and a talented seamstress! She worked in the costume departments of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Star Trek Picard S3, and Loki . She also hosts a great panel, “History of Sci-Fi Costumes” which we saw at WonderCon and she tours around to many conventions. Costumes speak to the audience and tell them exactly what you need to know about characters. From natural fabrics and armor to lamé and spandex, science fiction has a rich history in the manner characters are represented. We learn about this history, and dive deep into the costume departments of all the shows she’s worked on.   Then, we take a turn and talk about Augusta’s second career - as a Burlesque dancer! This is quite the episode.   Tuesday, April 18 was the first Disneyland After Dark Throwback Nite - celebrating the 1950’s and 60’s of Disneyland. Richard and Sarah share their experience - would they do it again? Listen and find out!   NEW BOOK - Skywalking Thro

414: Jabba the Hutt Sculptor John Coppinger

If behind-the-scenes stories are your jam, listen to this fantastic discussion with Jabba the Hutt sculptor, John Coppinger! When you first saw Jabba the Hutt in Return of the Jedi , did you have an instant reaction to his look? We can thank John Coppinger for being an intrinsic part of that response. He also puppeteered Jabba’s eyes on set every chance he got. What amazing stories! John also came back to work on, and perform, many characters in The Phantom Menace . His resume includes the first three Harry Potter films, The Fifth Element, The Dark Crystal and more.    You can even meet John Coppinger and get his autograph at Boonta Eve - the pre-Celebration Bash in London on April 6. Many thanks to Spencer Jawitz and Frank Rich for this discussion!   Subscribe to our YouTube Channel for more videos and fun Shorts   Like this one:   https://youtube.com/shorts/2fhDORTPtDg?feature=share   This is the Way.   Today in Star Wars History, Part 2 NOW AVAILABLE
